You only have a few seconds to make an impact with your resume, so don't risk making any mistakes that will distract from your resume and your important information contained in it.

Resume Mistake # 1 - Using a complicated format

Don't make the mistake of making your resume too complicated.

You will need to;

  • Maintain a simple and logical layout

  • Avoid too many paragraphs and layers of indentation

  • Maintain one font size

  • Don't combine font types

Resume Mistake # 2... Spelling and Grammar Errors

Resume Mistake # 3 ... Don't use a tiny font

Employers have to sift through many applications, sometimes even hundreds of resumes. If your resume or CV is typed in a very small font, making it difficult to read, the person reading your CV may miss important information or become frustrated by trying to read you information. Tiny fonts are difficult to read and also don't copy well. As a basic rule, try not to use fonts smaller than 10 point.

Resume Mistake # 4 ... Resume too long winded

Once again, given the amount of view time your resume will receive, make sure your important resume information is not lost amongst irrelevant information.

  • Keep sentences short

  • Highlight / bold important information
